Hinckley Opera Festival

Stanley Opera has been performing opera at the Concordia Theatre, Hinckley, (near Leicester) Leicestershire for 35 years.

The company stages an opera every April and a concert of music from musicals, films and opera in October. In addition to these performances we take Stanley Opera on the road with our Opera Lollipops concerts, performing popular opera in local communities.

With as many as fifty singers, actors and dancers of all ages the company is currently one of the largest performing at the Concordia.

Stanley Opera is committed to bringing quality popular opera to a local stage. With full price tickets still at most £10 the company is determined (in the words of a recent review) to ‘bring excellence at a price everyone can afford’.

The Merry Wives of Windsor. Stanley Opera bring yet another great premiere to Hinckley’s Concordia Theatre in April 2012 with Otto Nicolai’s hilarious opera, The Merry Wives of Windsor. Follow the tale of two merry wives who both receive saucy letters from one of the greatest rogues of them all, Sir John Falstaff. Shakespeare’s fat knight may think he holds all the cards when it comes to seduction but the wives are more than a match for him. Add one insanely jealous husband and a frantic trio of suitors madly seeking the love of an innocent young girl and you have the recipe for an hilarious night at the theatre. Nicolai’s delightfully tuneful and funny version of Shakespeare’s original comedy, first written at the request of Queen Elizabeth I herself, is a musical treat that absolutely nobody should miss.
